List of Institutions

With so many differrent institutions out there, it can be tricky to pick out which to go with. Whilst the list below is not exhaustive, it gives a good overview of some of the popular institiutions and what they offer. The Institution of Engineering and Technology

Formed in 2006, the IET combined two seperate institutions, the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IEE). With over 158000 members in over 150 countries, the IET is a well established charirty and in the UK, has the authority to establish professional engineering titles (inlcuding Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, Engineering Technician and ICT Technician) as liscenced members of the Engineering Council.

Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is an indepedent professional associated licensed by the engineering council that represents mechanical engineers. The IMechE suppourts engineers through their careers with professional and personal skills developement and promotes the impact that mechanical engineers have on societey. As a member, the IMechE also provide professional developement tools for engineers that look to be registered as Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technicians.

Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS)

Dedicated to the global aerospace community, the RAeS was founded in 1866 making it the oldest aeronautical society in the world. The Royal Aeronautical Society sets out to maintain high professional standards in the aerospace domain, provide specialist information and supporting aerospace and engineering professionals. Licenced by the Engineerin council to award CEng, Ieng and EngTech.

Royal Institute ofNaval Architects (RINA)

Founded in 1860, RINA is a professional instituion and global govering body for naval architecture and marine engineering. The institute supports and promotes the advancement of naval architecture and marine enginnering professionals, offering professional development and accreditiation, knowledge sharing and publications as well as developing professional standards and guidelines.

Institution of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST)

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology is a prfessional international membership body for professionals working in the marine engineering, science and technology sectors. The IMarEST promotes the scientific developement of marine engineering, provides opportunities to exchange ideas and upholds the standards and knowledge of marine professionals, providing education, funding and training opportunitites.
