Convection Heat Transfer Rate Equation

$$ q = h(P \Delta x)(T-T_f) $$ where:

q   =   Heat transfer rate   (W)

h   =   Convective heat transfer coefficient   (W/m²K)

P =   Perimeter of the fin cross-section   (m)

Δx   =   Length increment along the fin   (m)

T   =   Temperature of the fin at a given point   (K)

Tf   =   Temperature of fluid   (K)

Equation Assumptions

  • The system is in steady state.
  • Heat transfer is considered as being one-dimensional.
