Otto Cycle Heat Added

Otto Cycle Heat Added Equation

$$ Q_{in} = m C_v (T_3 - T_2) $$ where:

Qin   =   Heat added during combustion process   (J)

m   =   Mass of the working fluid (air-fuel mixture)   (kg)

Cv   =   Specific heat at constant volume   (J/kg K)

T2   =   Temperature at the end of the compression stroke   (K)

T3   =   Temperature after combustion   (K)

Equation Assumptions

  • The working fluid behaves as an ideal gas.
  • Specific heats remain constant.
  • Compression and expansion processes are adiabatic.
  • There is perfect mixing of the air and fuel.
