Conduction

Heat Conduction (Steady State) Equation

$$ Q = \lambda A \frac{dT}{dx} $$ where:

Q   =   Heat transfer rate   (W)

λ   =   Thermal conductivity of material   (W/mK)

A   =   Cross-sectional area through which heat is conducted   (m²)

dT/dx   =   Temperature gradient   (K/m)

Equation Assumptions

  • The system is in steady state.
  • Heat transfer is considered as being one-dimensional.
  • The material is homogeneous and isentropic.
  • The cross-sectional area remains uniform.
