How This Is Calculated



$$ a_t = \frac{r_1 + r_2}{2} $$ where:

at   =   Semi-major axis of the transfer orbit   (m)

r1   =   Radius of initial orbit   (m)

r2   =   Radius of final orbit   (m)


Assumptions



  • The initial and final orbits are circular.
  • The transfer occurs between two concentric orbits around the same central body.
  • The inital and final orbits are coplanaer.
  • Impulses are instantaneous.
  • The system is treated as a two-body problem.
