Gear Ratio Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ i = \frac{N_{driven}}{N_{driver}} $$ where:

i   =   Gear Ratio   (Dimensionless)

Ndriven   =   Number of teeth on the driven gear   (Teeth)

Ndriving   =   Number of teeth on the driving gear   (Teeth)

Assumptions

  • There are no energy losses (the gears are ideal).
  • The gears are rigid and do not deform under load.
  • The gear ratio remains constant.
  • Backlash is negligible.
