γ   =   Shear Strain   (Dimensionless)

Δ x   =   Change in position of a reference point due to shear force   (m)

L   =   Original length of the material in the direction perpendicular to the shear force   (m)


Assumptions



  • The material behaves in a linarlly elastic manner.
  • The material is isotropic.
  • The material is homogeneous.
  • The deformations are small.
