Ionization Rate Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ R_{ion} = A \cdot e^{ \frac{E_{ion}}{k_B T} } $$ where:

Rion   =   Ionization rate   (m³/s)

A   =   Pre-exponential factor   (depends on material)

Eion   =   Ionization energy   (J)

kB   =   Boltzmann constant   (1.381 x 10-21 J/K)

T   =   Temperature   (K)

Assumptions

  • Plasma is uniform and electron density is consistent.
  • Temperature effects on the electron distribution are neglected.
  • Collisional effects between electrons and ions are negligible.
  • Ionization events are treated as independant occurances.
