How This Is Calculated



Work Done in Compression: $$ W_{c} = C_v (T_2 - T_1) $$ Work Done in Expansion: $$ W_{e} = C_v (T_4 - T_3) $$ where:

Wc   =   Work Done in Compression   (J)

We   =   Work Done in Expansion   (J)

Cv   =   Specific Heat at constant volume   (J/kg K)

T1   =   Temperature at state 1   (K)

T2   =   Temperature at state 2   (K)

T3   =   Temperature at state 3   (K)

T4   =   Temperature at state 4   (K)


Assumptions



  • The system is in steady state.
  • Working fluid behaves as an ideal gas.
  • Compression and expansion stages are adiabatic.
  • Specific heat remains constant.
