Yield Strength Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ \sigma_y = \frac{F_y}{A} $$
where:

σy   =   Tensile Strength   (Pa or N/m²)

Fy   =   Yield Force   (N)

A   =   Cross Sectional Area   (m²)

Assumptions

  • The material behaves linearly and elastically.
  • Deformations are small (for large strains the linear relationship between shear stress and strain may not hold).
  • Material is homogeneous.
  • The material is isotropic.
