Plasma frequency Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ f_p = \frac{1}{2 \pi} \sqrt{\frac{n_e e^2}{\epsilon_0 m_e}} $$ where:

fp   =   Plasma frequency   (Hz)

ne   =   Electron density   (electrons/m³)

e   =   Elementary charge   (1.602 x 10-19 C)

ε0   =   Permittivity of free space   (8.854 x 10-12 F/m)

me   =   Electron mass   (9.1094 x 10-31 kg)

Assumptions

  • Plasma is uniform and electron density is consistent.
  • Temperature effects on the electron distribution are neglected.
  • Collisional effects between electrons and ions are negligible.
  • The plasma remains incompressible.
