Orbital Period For Circular Orbits Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ T = 2 \pi \sqrt{\frac{r^3}{GM}} $$ where:

T   =   Orbital period   (s)

r   =   Orbital radius   (m)

G   =   Gravitational constant   (6.674 x 10-11 m3 kg-1 s-2)

M   =   Mass of the central body   (kg)

Assumptions

  • The objects are treated as point masses.
  • The central body is assumed to be spherically symmetric.
  • There are no external forces.
  • The object remains in a constant circular orbit.
  • The gravitational field is uniform.
