Angular Velocity Relationship Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ \frac{\omega_{driven}}{\omega_{driver}} = \frac{N_{driver}}{N_{driven}} $$ where:

ωdriven   =   Angular velocity of the driven gear   (rad/s)

ωdriver   =   Angular velocity of the driving gear   (rad/s)

Ndriver   =   Number of teeth on the driving gear   (Teeth)

Ndriven   =   Number of teeth on the driven gear   (Teeth)

Assumptions

  • There are no energy losses (the gears are ideal).
  • The gears are rigid and do not deform under load.
  • There is no slippage between the geat teeth.
  • Backlash is negligible.
