Lateral Force on a Tyre Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ F_y = C \cdot \alpha $$ where:

Fy   =   Lateral force generated by the tyre   (N)

C   =   Cornering stiffness of the tyre   (N/°)

α   =   Slip angle of the tyre   (°)

Assumptions

  • The relationship between the lateral force and slip angle is linear.
  • The cornering stiffness remains constant over the range of slip angles considered.
  • Tyre characateristics are ideal.
  • Road surface and load effects are neglected.
