How This Is Calculated



$$ v_{tip} = \sqrt{(v_0^2) + (\omega R)^2} $$ where:

vtip   =   Velocity of the propeller tip   (m/s)

v0   =   Freestream Velocity   (m/s)

ω   =   Rotational speed   (rad/s)

R   =   Propeller radius   (m)


Assumptions



  • The system is in steady state.
  • Fluid is incompressible.
  • The flow is uniform.
  • The velocity distribution is unifrom.
  • Propeller flexibility is ignored.
