$$ D_i = \frac{T^2}{2 \rho A v_0^2} $$ where:

Di   =   Induced Drag (N)

T   =   Thrust   (N)

ρ   =   Density of fluid   (kg/m³)

A   =   Propeller disk area   (m²)

v0   =   Freestream velocity   (m/s)


Assumptions



  • The fluid is ideal.
  • The system is in steady state.
  • Propeller blades are treated as thin aerofoils.
  • Propeller rotation is uniform.
  • Propeller has radial symmetry.
