Brayton Cycle Efficiency Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ \eta = 1- \frac{T_1}{T_2} \left( \frac{P_1^{\gamma - 1} - 1}{ P_2^{\gamma - 1} - 1} \right) $$ where:

η   =   Efficiency   (Dimensionless)

T1   =   Temperature at the start of compression process   (K)

T2   =   Temperature at the end of compression process   (K)

P1   =   Pressure at point 1   (Pa)

P2   =   Pressure at point 2   (Pa)

γ   =   Heat Capacity Ratio   (Dimensionless)

Assumptions

  • The system is in steady state.
  • Working fluid behaves as an ideal gas.
  • Compression and expansion stages are isentropic.
  • Mixing and combustion are perfect.
