How This Is Calculated



Work Done in Compression: $$ W_{1-2} = \frac{ P_1 V_1 - P_2 V_2}{\gamma - 1} $$
Work Done in Expansion: $$ W_{3-4} = \frac{ P_3 V_3 - P_4 V_4}{\gamma - 1} $$
where:

W1-2   =   Work done during adiabatic compression process (1-2)   (J)

W3-4   =   Work done during adiabatic expansion process (3-4)   (J)

P1   =   Pressure at state 1   (Pa)

P2   =   Pressure at state 2   (Pa)

P3   =   Pressure at state 3   (Pa)

P4   =   Pressure at state 4   (Pa)

V1   =   Volume at state 1   (m³)

V2   =   Volume at state 2   (m³)

V4   =   Volume at state 3   (m³)

V4   =   Volume at state 4   (m³)

γ   =   Ratio of specific heats (m³)
