How This Is Calculated

Heat Added (Qin): $$ Q_{in} = m C_p (T_3 - T_2) $$
Heat Rejected (Qout): $$ Q_{out} = m C_v (T_4 - T_1) $$
where:

Qin   =   Heat Added (2-3)   (J)

Qout   =   Heat Rejected (4-1)   (J)

m   =   Mass of the working fluid   (kg)

Cp   =   Specific Heat at Constant Pressure   (J/kg K)

Cv   =   Specific Heat at Constant Volume   (J/kg K)

T1   =   Temperature at state 1   (K)

T2   =   Temperature at state 2   (K)

T3   =   Temperature at state 3   (K)

T4   =   Temperature at state 4   (K)

Assumptions

  • The working fluid behaves as an ideal gas.
  • Compression and expansion stages are adiabatic.
  • There are no heat losses to surroundings.
  • Specific heats remain constant.
