Stack Effect Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ Q = C \sqrt{H \Delta T} $$ where:

Q   =   Airflow Rate (m³/s)

C   =   Discharge Coefficient   (Dimensionless)

H   =   Height of the building or the vertical distance between openings   (m)

Δ T   =   Temperature difference between the indoor and outdoor air   (K)

Assumptions

  • The system is in steady-state.
  • Temperature indoors is uniform.
  • Temperature outdoors is constant.
  • Fluid is incompressible.
  • Fluid behaves as an ideal gass.
