Coefficient of Friction in Hydrodynamic Lubrication Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ \mu_h = \frac{ \eta \cdot U }{ P \cdot h } $$ where:

μh   =   Coefficient of friction   (Dimensionless)

η   =   Dynamic viscosity of the lubricant   (Pa s)

U   =   Relative velocity between moving surfaces   (m/s)

P   =   Pressure   (Pa)

h   =   Lubricant film thickness   (m)

Assumptions

  • The system is in steady state.
  • Fluid flow is laminar.
  • The lubricant is incompressible.
  • The fluid is newtonian.
  • The lubricant is in the hydrodynamic regime.
