Ductility (% Elongation) Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ E = \frac{L_f - L_0}{L_0} \cdot 100 $$ where:

E   =   Percentage Elongation   (%)

Lf   =   Final length after fracture   (m)

L0   =   Original Length   (m)

Assumptions

  • The material behaves linearly and elastically.
  • Deformations are small (for large strains the linear relationship between shear stress and strain may not hold).
  • Material is homogeneous.
  • The material is isotropic.
