where:

G   =   Shear Modulus   (Pa or N/m²)

τ   =   Shear Stress   (Pa or N/m²)

γ   =   Shear Strain   (dimensionless)


Assumptions



  • The material behaves linearly and elastically.
  • Deformations are small (for large strains the linear relationship between shear stress and strain may not hold).
  • Material is homogeneous.
  • The material is isotropic.
