Lateral Acceleration Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ a_y = \frac{v^2}{R} $$ where:

ay   =   Lateral Acceleration   (m/s²)

v   =   Vehicle's forward velocity   (m/s)

R   =   Turn radius   (m)

Assumptions

  • The vehicle is travelling at a constant speed.
  • The vehicle is treated as a rigid body with no suspension effects.
  • Tyre characateristics are ideal.
  • Road surface is flat and smooth.
