Efficiency of Gear Transmission Calculator

How This Is Calculated

$$ \eta = \frac{P_{output}}{P_{input}} \cdot 100 $$ where:

η   =   Efficiency of gear transmission   (%)

Poutput   =   Power output delivered by the driven gear   (W)

Pinput   =   Power input supplied to the driving gear   (W)

Assumptions

  • There are no energy losses (the gears are ideal).
  • The gears are rigid and do not deform under load.
  • There is no slippage between the geat teeth.
  • Backlash is negligible.
